PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: KOMOREBI RUG

Our Komorebi Rug features in this stunning living room designed by London based design studio Interior Fox.

Tell us about your background in the design industry, what led to setting up your own studio?

We used to work together at a furniture company and we both recognised we had a lot more passion and drive for interior design, so we started Interior Fox in 2016 and took our first client in 2017. Our approach has always been to provide a client-focused experience and quality design work so we started small, focusing on individual rooms but over time grew to take on full renovation projects. We've been really lucky to have such great clients which has led to a continuous stream of referrals and recognition throughout the years.

What is your favourite part of the design process?

Our favourite part is probably the beginning and the end, where we start with sampling materials and creating mood boards and finish with the final fit-out and (hopefully) a photoshoot. These 2 x stages are the most creative and free-slowing whereas all the work in between is full-on spreadsheet mode! It's pretty amazing to see our designs come to life as we live in those digital spaces for months. The feeling of a successful fit-out never gets old.

Tell us about this project - what was the brief?

This project, based in the Arsenal/Stoke Newington area, had a massive lower-ground living room which our clients felt was a hodgepodge of furniture and children’s toys. The brief was to create a vibrant space with vintage undertones that maximized the full width of the room. They wanted lots of storage and killer unique pieces of furniture. We worked with our carpenter, from Hansfords Interiors, to create bespoke room dividers made from slatted strips of wood which created a private play space for the daughter. The Arum Fellow Rug was a key piece of decor that set the palette for the entire room!

What is your advice on how to select rugs for a scheme?

Rugs or statement artwork are usually one of the first items we look at for inspiration and overall design scheme. When using a patterned rug, which is often for us, we like to start here and then make sure the rest of the space is balanced with the right colours and scale of prints etc. We would say that 95% of the time, we suggest a flat weave rug as they are the most durable and easiest to clean. They also have a more relaxed casual aesthetic which is a big part of Interior Fox's ethos.
